Martyr Alexander of Macedonia (305)
Commemorated March 13
The Holy Martyr Alexander was a presbyter in the city of Pidna, not far from Soluneia (Thessalonika). The saint converted many pagans to Christianity by his preaching. During the time of the persecution against Christians under the emperor Maximian Galerius (305-311), Saint Alexander was subjected to fierce tortures, and then beheaded.
Troparion
Thy martyr, O Lord, Alexander, through his suffering, an incorruptible crown did obtain from Thee, our God; for, rejoicing in Thy strength, he laid low his tormentors and did beat off impotent affronts of the demons also; at his intercessions save our souls.
Kontakion
Thou hast appeared as a bright star, uninviting for the world, but a sun announcing Christ with thy rays, O martyr Alexander; all the enchantment hast thou extinguished and grantest unto us light, supplicating incessantly for us all.
