Martyrs Juventius and Maximus at Antioch (4th c.)
Commemorated October 9
The Holy Martyrs Euventios (Juventinus) and Maximos were body-guards of the emperor Julian the Apostate (361-363). Having arrived in Antioch, the emperor gave orders to sprinkle with idol-worship blood all the food-stuffs in the marketplace and the water in the wells. Saints Euventios and Maximos opposed this edict, and Julian ordered them executed.
Troparion
Through the sufferings of Thy saints which they did endure for Thy sake, be moved, O Lord, and all our infirmities cure, Thou, O Lover of man, we implore Thee.
Kontakion
Having appeared as bright lamps, ye, O divine martyrs, enlighten the whole creation with the shine of your miracles, releasing from maladies, ever driving away the profound darkness and supplicating continually Christ the God for us all.
