St Theophilus, Bishop of Antioch
Commemorated December 6
A man well-versed in Hellenistic philosophy, he became a Christian through reading the Holy Scriptures and became a great champion of the Christian faith. His work 'On the Faith' is extant today. He governed the Church in Antioch for thirteen years, and went to his rest in the year 181.
Troparion
As a rule of faith and model of tenderness, and teacher of abstinence hath the reality shewn thee unto thy flock; there withal hast thou acquired by humility greatness, by poverty riches; O father hierarch Theophilus, intercede before Christ the God that our souls may be saved.
Kontakion
O divine thunder, spiritual trumpet, planter of faith and cutter off of heresies, great favourite of the Trinity, hierarch Theophilus, standing with the angels before God do ever and unceasingly pray for us all.
