The Monk Barnabas and his nephew Sophronios were Athenians, saved upon Mount Mela near Trapezund in Asia Minor. They died in the year 412.

O God of our fathers that ever dealest by us according to Thy kindness, do not withdraw from us Thy mercy, but at their intercessions direct our lives in peace.

Passing unmoistened through a multitude of waves, in the streams of your tears ye have deeply immersed your bodiless enemies, O God-wise and holy ones, and have received the gift of miracles; do incessantly pray for us all.
